Stephen Harper in Vancouver Thursday!

Stephen Harper is in Vancouver this Thursday (location and time TBA) to announce a so called tough on crime strategy. Instead of targeting gangs, Harper is going to target low level drug use. Bill C-26, defeated last session proposed 6 month mandatory minimum sentences for growing even 1 marijuana plant. This despite studies from our own Justice Department that show these sentences do not deter crime and fill our jails with non-violent offenders.

"OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper will shift his focus from the economy to law-and-order on Thursday, when he travels to Vancouver — decried by his public safety minister as Canada’s gang capital — to announce measures to crack down on gang-related crime.

"Officials in the Prime Minister’s Office would not confirm the details of Thursday’s announcement. But Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan said this week priority legislation for the government includes imposing mandatory prison terms for certain drug crimes and making all gang-related homicides automatic first-degree murder."

We need everyone ready to turn out an protest Stephen Harper's failed and soft on crime strategy. We need to target violent gangsters, not mom-and-pop marijuana growers.

Harper refuses to announce where or when he will be appearing, so stay tuned -- messages will be sent out as soon as we know the time and place!

Harper knows that if he gave us notice, there would be huge protests, so let's prove we can mobilize fast to respond to bad policy!

We need to get a huge crowd out to show Harper that the people of Vancouver will not tolerate further enriching gangs with more prohibition!
