The BC Climate Action Team released it's report on housing in the province, revealing that the province could achieve carbon neutrality, and even a net carbon sink for housing by 2020, for as little as 2% on top of the cost of a new building.
The report was buried within a larger report, released two weeks ago by the provincial government. The report shows that by 2020, all new buildings in the province could be carbon neutral
While current market conditions place the cost of carbon neutral development at an extra 5% to 20%, those costs are dropping annually due to economies of scale (the more of something you make, the cheaper each individual unit becomes) and technological developments. In addition, the extra costs are repaid by heating and electrical savings.
The BC Marijuana Party supports the immediate implementation of the recommendations of the BC Climate Action Team. By leveraging the collective power of all British Columbians, we can lead the private sector towards our ultimate shared goal of sustainability.
