A report by the Criminal Intelligence Service of Canada, a branch of the RCMP, concluded that organized crime was profiting heavily from the prohibition of drugs, especially marijuana.
The report, which focused on the funding sources for organized criminal groups, of which there are 900 in Canada, and found drugs to be the primary source of funding for organized crime, with marijuana contributing the largest amount. The report found organized crime to be heavily involved in all levels of the marijuana economy, including production, distribution and trafficking.
This report confirms the conclusion of the Senate, that the prohibition of marijuana is jeopardizing Canadian society by handing control of a massive marijuana market ($10 Billion in BC alone) to organized criminals.
We can take billions from organized crime simply by legalizing and regulating the production, distribution and sale of marijuana. The money earned in taxation alone could pay for a 20% increase in healthcare or education funding in the province, while the jobs could be a boon to rural and farming communities.
A repeal of marijuana prohibition would allow police to gain an upper-hand over organized criminals, and would lead to a further reduction in Canadian crime rates.
If you could change 1 law and take $10 Billion per year away from organized crime and use it to build hospitals and schools, would you? Vote to repeal prohibition.
