BC Marijuana Part to protest Stephen Harper in Vancouver on Feb 26

Stephen Harper will be at 300 west Hastings at 1pm Feb 26! Meet us at 12pm at 307 west Hastings (BCMP Building) to get ready!

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is flying to Vancouver Thursday to announce a bill he calls a crackdown on gangs. In reality, Harper's extension of the prohibition of drugs is going to enrich organized criminals and endanger Canadian safety. The Prime Minister's office has refused to release details of the announcement, including its time and place, but information suggests Harper will reintroduce mandatory minimum sentences for drug crimes. Despite the late announcement of the visit by the Prime Minister, the BC Marijuana Party is organizing local activists to protest Harper's visit.

The data on prohibition in general and mandatory minimums specifically is pretty clear. Scientific study from the federal Justice department and the US Rand Corporation conclusively show that these mandatory minimums do not decrease crime, they in fact increase it. These sentencing laws fill our jails with non-violent offenders that would not normally be sent to jail, decimating families. Mandatory minimum laws are a failure, and one that sees its most obvious expression in the United States, which imprisons 1 out of 99 adults, the highest incarceration rate in the world, right along with the highest drug use and associated violence.

Stephen Harper is ignoring the will of the 62% of Canadians that want marijuana prohibition repealed. Support for the end of marijuana prohibition has stayed above 50% for the last 15 years. Compare this to the Conservative Party which has failed to consistently poll above 40%. The reason that Canadians support an end to prohibition is summarized by the Canadian Senate report of 2002. The Senate concluded that the prohibition of marijuana is more dangerous to Canadian society than the substance itself. This is because the prohibition of marijuana is responsible for giving up to $40 Billion a year to organized criminals and costs Canadian taxpayers $2.3 Billion every year. It does this while failing to impact the use or supply of marijuana.

That is why Stephen Harper is refusing to announce the location of his press conference until the last minute. Stephen Harper knows that he will face protests from the population of Vancouver, a population fed up with bearing the costs of drug prohibition. Vancouver residents have borne the violent costs of drug prohibition and they want a change. Stephen Harper is going to Vancouver to announce more of the same. He wants to score cheap political points from the fear of a community plagued by violence.

Bush committed hate crimes

Speaking of Stephen Harper:

Stephen Harper would condemn George W. Bush’s hate crimes.

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

(I can type 90 words per minute. In only 7 days, posts basically like this post of mine have come into existence—all over the Internet (hundreds of copies). One can go to Google USA right now, type “George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism,” hit “Enter,” and find more than 350 copies indicating the content of this post. All in all, there are probably more than 1,000 copies on the Internet indicating the content of this post—it has practically become headline news. One cannot be too dedicated when it comes to anti-Bush activities. As I looked back at my good computer work, I thought how fun and easy it was to do it.)

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memories so they never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think it came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.

Protestors' position called naive

CP reports:

Protesters advocating legalization of drugs as a way of choking off the money that fuels gang activity chanted outside the federal building where Harper met police officials and gang victims. "I think that argument is somewhat naive," said Brown. "It's much more complex an issue."

Yes, the law is complicating the issue.

legalize pot,who wants a criminal record over weed,a joint never hurt anyone.i'm a dad,a grandpa,i played high level sports in Canada, been a weed smoker for 35 years already and raised a family, healthy kids.A question for the gov't and politicians, why is alcohol legal and pot not?I suspect the pharmaceutical companies pay off the politicians, pharmeceutical companies would lose zillion$ if pot was legal, also mental health doctors etc would be with out work.Is this the trade off politicians?
